Product Description
In this handsome and hilarious volume of knockoff postage stamps, artists Thompson and Hernandez de Luna have created a startling and unique work of art.
Since 1991, the artist-publishers of Bad Press Books’ clever and colorful collection have been creating fake stamps that are not only fine art, but have also been successfully sent through the mail—much to the chagrin of the U.S. Postal Service.
In their artistic venture, Thompson and Hernandez de Luna have turned philately on its head and, in the process, have been repeatedly warned to cease and desist by inspectors from the Post Office. But readers can enjoy the richly comic parodies and social commentary implicit in this renegade art without the danger of suffering any consequences.
Among the wide-ranging subjects included in this collection are politics, religion, sex and disasters. In their never-ending quest for the outrageous, they have created bogus stamps from a score of countries from Japan to South Africa, from India to Norway. Their art forms are splendid counterfeits of truly global proportions.
Their work has been shown in museums across the country and has also received the stamp of approval from the press.

Product Description
Oklahoma, A Haven of Racial Tension. The incidents presented in this book occurred in the most noted religious state in America, Oklahoma. In a branch of the federal government, the main post office in Oklahoma City. I was forced to resign after being consistently harassed and received poor representation from the American Postal Workers Union. Twenty greivances were filed in a period of six years. Enclosed is my five page letter of resignation covering the period from 1986 to 1992. I have been followed to class by federal agents, I have received death threats by phone and death threats going into my place of employment. This case is on file in The United States Supreme Court. What many people do not know is the United States Postal Service employees over 700,000 minorities. It is the largest employers of minorities in the country. So why is there so much hatred allotted in this government entity. There has been over 140 murders of postal rage inside these government facilities (Postal Offices) since 1972 this is where the term going postal comes from. The question I pose is, "What is the Postmaster General in Washington, DC doing to correct the problem? This book covers many solutions which can help better the postal service in the future. It leaves the reader with a broader view as to what is taking place on the inside of these federally ran facilities. Book 2 will be an even larger enhancement as to what problems exists and why these massacres happen the way they happen. Is the American Postal Workers Union (APWU) a big part of the problem? Can many of these out breaks and mistreatment of postal workers be corrected? The next book will document and answer many question.

Product Description
Every stamp is a work of art in miniature. In 2001, award-winning artists have brought talent, tradition, and imagination together to pay tribute to an impressive array of Americana. From legendary baseball playing fields like Fenway Park and Wrigley Field to legendary funny lady Lucille Ball, from the breathtaking landscapes of the Great Plains prairie to the comic-strip world of Snoopy and the rest of the beloved Peanuts gang, here is a colorful celebration of the people, places, events, and ideas that are important to us as a nation.Highlighted in this year's collection is the "American Illustrators" stamp pane, honoring the artists whose contributions to books, magazines, posters, and murals have recorded fads, fashions, and follies, as well as the pivotal events that have shaped the past century. Whether it's the heartwarming snapshots of American life by Norman Rockwell or a window into the Jazz Age provided by John Held, Jr., this delightful pane shows that these artists have created some of the most familiar and enduring images of our time.Beautifully designed and illustrated as a keepsake for collectors of all ages, The 2001 Commemorative Stamp Yearbook is the perfect way to celebrate the art of stamps. Featuring space for collectors to affix their matching stamps, this is a book no stamp enthusiast will want to be without.

Product Description
There has never been a more popular time for dinosaurs and all things dinosaurian. From blockbuster films packed with breathtaking CGI effects, children's television and video cartoons, computer games, CD-ROMs, animatronic museum exhibitions, and theme parks, to countless books, magazines, toys large and small, ornaments, collectabilia, and even fun lines in confectionery and other edibles, prehistoric paraphernalia continues to scale new heights of desirability worldwide. But nowhere is this more apparent than within the philatelic world - where the issuing in recent years by an ever-increasing number of countries around the globe of handsome, highly-prized stamp sets depicting a spectacular array of dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals is matched only by the corresponding increase of thematic collectors eager to amass an eyecatching, comprehensive menagerie of palaeontological monsters that the custodians of Jurassic Park could only dream about! Today, well over 500 sets of stamps portraying all manner of dinosaurs and also a multifarious assemblage of other prehistoric animals have been issued, with a substantial proportion of these having appeared within the last decade alone - confirming the escalating interest among collectors in this exciting thematic subject. And who can blame them? After all, where else but in the pages of a stamp album could stegosaurs and plesiosaurs, tyrannosaurs and sabre-tooth tigers, brachiosaurs, mammoths, belemnites, ground sloths, giant birds, and ichthyosaurs jostle for attention with velociraptors and trilobites, dimetrodonts and diplodocuses, mosasaurs, woolly rhinoceroses, Archaeopteryx, titanosaurs, iguanodontids, ammonites, giant sea scorpions, and innumerable other spectacular denizens of our planet's distant past? Now, for the very first time, here is a philatelic catalogue devoted exclusively to these incredible animals. Compiled by zoologist Dr Karl P.N. Shuker, a lifelong, enthusiastic collector of wildlife stamps and with an especial interest in those that portray fossil species, it provides an exhaustive, definitive listing of stamps and miniature sheets depicting dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals issued by countries throughout the world. It also includes sections dealing with cryptozoological stamps, dinosaur stamp superlatives, and unofficial prehistoric animal stamps. This invaluable book will undoubtedly encourage everyone with a passion for dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures to pursue it not only on screen, in books, or in museums but also via the ever-fascinating world of philately.

Product Description

The mail has a powerful connection with the American people. Who hasn't shared the experience of waiting eagerly for a letter to arrive or felt the rush of excitement at hearing footsteps near the door signaling the arrival of a delivery?

This first-ever photographic history of the United States Postal Service pays tribute to the everyday people who have worked through rain, sleet, and snow to bring mail to American families. In over 200 rarely seen photographs, beginning with the advent of photography in 1860 and continuing to the present, An American Postal Portrait celebrates the fascinating behind-the-scenes stories, the innovative technological accomplishments, and the unique imprint the Postal Service workforce has made on American life.

Starting with the earliest Post Office outposts on the remote western frontier, the photographs highlight the great events, ideas, and inventions of the past century and a half--from mail delivery by stagecoach and horseback to the rapid utilization of the railroads and airplanes to the sophisticated sorting machines automating the processing of mail today. Captivating and unforgettable, these pages trace our nation's progress from its rural and isolated past to the high-tech, information-driven present, revealing a Postal Service that has helped to bind our growing nation together--one that continues to march in unison with America into the future.

Compiled from the collection of the United States Postal Service, the National Archives, the Library of Congress, and other sources, An American Postal Portrait is a well-deserved tribute to our nation's foremost communications institution and the enduring American spirit.

For more than 200 years, the United States Postal Service has provided the American people with a secure and efficient delivery connection that binds our nation together. Today, postal employees handle approximately 41 percent of the world's volume--more than 650 million pieces every day, 3.9 billion pieces every week--delivering to a total of 130 million households and businesses. The United States Postal Service is the universal gateway to the American household.

Product Description
In 1893, the United States Postal Service issued the first stamp featuring a woman, Queen Isabella I, on the occasion of the World's Columbian Exposition, a World's Fair held in Chicago honoring Christopher Columbus and those who aided in his achievements. Fourteen years later, on the centennial anniversary of her death, a stamp was issued bearing Martha Washington's likeness, making her the first American woman so honored. From here, this volume examines more than 200 stamps honoring or commemorating women and women's rights.

Grouped by subject matter, the stamps are divided into 18 categories such as artists and works of art; books; entertainment; organizations; pioneers and writers. Entries provide a plethora of information including the color, denomination and method of production; date and particulars of issuance; the number of stamps issued; and the number of first-day cancels as well as specific information regarding these cancellations. The birth and death date of the subject; facts about the designer and the inscription; and any reported errors are also noted where applicable. Finally, each entry features a biographical summary of the subject and a concise bibliography of further resources. A glossary of terms related to stamps and philately is included.

This study assesses the public safety concerns of relaxing the Mailbox Rule and makes recommendations to address these concerns.
